Great First Semester!

Dear Hohokam Families,
First of all, I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Thank you for contributing to an outstanding first semester. We truly appreciate your partnership!
Speaking of partnerships, we have a winner in our Parents as Partners drawing. Daniel Garcia, a Hohokam 6th grader, and his family are the proud new owners of a computer! We hope to conduct a drawing each quarter for fabulous prizes. To be eligible for prizes, all you have to do is attend events, conferences, or activities at Hohokam. Fill out a “Parents as Partners” ticket when you arrive and your name will be entered into the drawing. This is our way of saying thank you for all of your support.
In other news, we are happy to announce that 5th grade student, Ben Jacques, won the Hohokam Spelling Bee! He will represent our school at the District Spelling Bee in December. We would also like to congratulate Katie Unfricht for being the alternate. Way to go!
Tax Credit Deadline Approaching- Please help Hohokam by giving a tax credit donation! The deadline to receive credit on this year’s taxes is December 31! It is very easy to donate. Any Arizona taxpayer can go to www. susd.org and click on the tax credit link. It will provide you with directions on how to donate to Hohokam Traditional School.
Once again, thank you for all your support. Enjoy the break and I look forward to seeing everyone in 2011!
Sincerely,
Mr. Caudle

Tax Credit

Dear Hohokam Families,
Time is running out to contribute your TAX CREDIT! The end of the year will be here before you know it. You can contribute and get every cent back when filing your AZ taxes!  The State of Arizona Public School Tax Credit Program is available to all AZ taxpayers.  Arizona State Law (ARS 43-1089.01) allows you to receive a tax credit when you give up to $400 (for joint tax returns) or $200 (for individual returns) to a public school for extracurricular activities that may require an enrolled student to pay a fee.  Instead of the money going to the state treasury, it goes straight to helping our students. This has allowed us to provide many tutoring  and enrichment opportunities for our students.  Anyone who pays Arizona income tax can participate.  It is not limited to parents of students at our school.  Friends, relatives, even neighbors without children in school can participate.
The process is very easy. You can bring a check (payable to Hohokam Traditional) for any amount to our office.  You can also contribute online through the website (susd.org) and choose the “School Tax Credit” button.   Please consider contributing any amount as $10, $20, or $30 helps! This money is used to provide enriching and educational opportunities for students that are not presently available under our current allocated budget.  Thank you!

Strong Communities = Strong Schools

Hohokam Family,

The weather is beautiful outside and it is a wonderful time of year to be outdoors. Did you know that every Saturday we have youth soccer games occurring on the east field? Our wonderful PTA purchased soccer goals which have brought a lot of positive attention to our school. It is great to see a strong sense of community in our neighborhood.

Speaking of community, we have had two parent involvement nights: "Tech Tune-Up" and "How We Teach Your Child to Read." Each event was a great success with solid attendance. We will continue to provide these opportunities throughout the year for your family. We look forward to your future attendance.

In other news...
  • Don't forget to contact your child's teacher for Parent/Teacher Conferences. There are no early release days embedded into the calendar this year.
  • We do have an early release day next Wednesday, November 3rd for teacher professional development. Thank you for supporting our teachers' professional growth!
  • Stop by the office in the morning to check out our T.V. announcements at 8:45. We have a fantastic student news crew led by Mrs. Cottrell!
  • Check out the gardens on the west side of the cafeteria! Our pre-school students were hard at work planting.
  • This Friday, October 29th is "Coffee with the Principal." Join me in room 12 at 8:20 a.m.
I hope to see you all soon!

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Dear Hohokam Traditional School Family,

We sent a Parent/Teacher Conference document home with all students last week. Please make sure you return this document to your child's homeroom teacher by Wednesday, October 6th. As a reminder, Parent/Teacher Conference weeks for Hohokam Traditional School are October 25 – November 5. Teachers will be sending out additional information for parents the week we return from Fall Break.

We believe that good communication between home and school is critical to your child’s success. Please know that we are committed to providing you the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with the school. If you have further questions, please contact your child’s teacher directly for clarification.

Dr. Catalani’s Office Hours
SUSD’s Superintendent, Dr. Gary Catalani, will be holding office hours at Hohokam Traditional School on Wednesday, October 6th, from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Dr. Catalani will be available in the office conference room for informal conversations with our community. Please come and take advantage of this opportunity!

As directed by the Governing Board, SUSD will host community meetings for stakeholders in the Coronado and Saguaro complexes to discuss the benefits and hear community input regarding the configuration of Mohave and Supai middle schools to align grade levels with other District middle schools. The two schools currently have grades 7 and 8, while other SUSD middle schools have grades 6-8.

PTA News
The McDonalds on Hayden Rd awarded Hohokam Traditional School a $1000 Go Active! grant. The money was used to purchase soccer goals for our east field. A big thanks to Denny Brown for seeking out this wonderful opportunity. Also, laptops continue to be placed in classrooms around campus. You may remember that PTA purchased 16 last spring. In total, we have over 100 that will be utilized. We are truly constructing classrooms with 21st Century Technology!

As of now, PTA membership is low. Please get out there and recruit other parents to join. For Hohokam Traditional School to be at its best, we need parents engaged and a strong partnership between home and school.

Have a great day!
